All lanes are now open.
Five vehicles were involved in the crash: a 2008 Ford Pickup, a 2012 Freightliner, a 2013 Kenworth, a 2005 Freightliner, and a 2000 Freightliner.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Illinois State Police, the driver of the pickup, Robert A. Nelson, was going west on I-90 at Milepost 38.5 when he tried to change lanes, hit the center concrete wall, then veered back into traffic.
The truck then hit the 2012 Freightliner, driven by Mark M. Gordon. That impact caused a chain rear-end collision between the remaining vehicles.
Nelson was cited for improper lane usage.
All lanes are shut down on I-90 westbound at Milepost 38.5 near Route 20 after a crash.
The crash, which occurred around 11:30 a.m., involved multiple vehicles. The Illinois State Police said in a statement that injuries were involved, but did not elaborate.
Traffic is being diverted off I-90 at Route 20 and the crash is still under investigation.
