Icemen Perfect through Round Robin Play at Nationals


The Rockford Icemen started the third game slowly this evening against the California Riptide in the 3rd game of the round robin play at the Tier II 18-under 2A Division at USA Hockey Nationals in Hartford, Conn., but the Icemen rallied for a 3-2 win. 

The Riptide team scored twice in the first period  but then the Icemen shut them down after that.  In the second period, Lutheran senior Adam Goethals scored on an assist by Boylan senior Ryan Teagardin.  Later in the second period, Lutheran junior Brett Stewart fed the puck to Boylan sophomore Andy Cropp for the tying goal.  In the third period Lutheran sophomore defensemen Quin de leon and Goethals assisted Harlem sophomore Anthony Heaslip to chip in the winning goal with 5:53 left in the third, for the 3-2 final.  Hononegah sophomore Brandon Roderick held down the net with 34 saves. 

Semi-final game is 3 p.m. Saturday.  Jax on Perryville is showing the game on live-feed.
