Icemen Win 1st Game at Nationals

The Rockford Icemen won their first game at nationals in the Tier II 18-under 2A Division in Hartford, Conn. with a 2-1 victory over the Howard (Md.) Huskies early this morning.

Hononegah sophomore Erik Swanberg scored the first goal of the game on an assist by Hononegah junior Jon Pirrie with 3 seconds left in the first period.  The Huskies scored early in the second period. The game stayed tied until Boylan sophomore Andy Cropp scored one in the third period with assists from Dakota senior Montana Bahls and Rock Valley College freshman Cole Runkel.

Brandon Roderick held down the net with 16 saves.

Rockford plays Barnstable (Mass.) at 2 p.m. Thursday and Channel Island (Calif.) at 6 p.m.  Friday.  If pool play continues to go well, semi-finals are on Saturday and the championship game is on Sunday.
