Local child abuse acknowledged at Rockford City Council

City leaders acknowledge the protection of our youngest citizens at Monday's Rockford City Council meeting.

Youth Services Bureau of Illinois Valley, a non-profit child welfare agency serving 20 counties in the northern Illinois region, received a proclamation for Child Abuse Awareness month. That begins today.

Each year, in the Rockford area alone, the organization helps more than 300 children and family members.  The goal is to keep kids with their natural families but make it a safer environment.

YSB Child Welfare Services Director, Frank Vonch comments "We're dealing with situations that hopefully is a community, not one agency, not workers together, but it's really a community effort."

Organizers passed out blue ribbons to council members.  They'll be doing that the rest of this month.
