Blackhawks Acquire Handzus

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired forward Michal Handzus from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Handzus, 36, has recorded 461 points (180G, 281A) in 939 career NHL games with St. Louis, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Jose.  He has appeared in 74 Stanley Cup Playoff games, posting 32 points (11G, 21A). Handzus has two points (1G, 1A) in 27 games with the Sharks this season and has won 165-of-297 (55.6%) faceoffs.
The Banska Bystricia, Slovakia, native has represented his home country in international competition on 10 occasions, including the 2002 and 2010 Winter Olympic Games. He has participated in five International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships, capturing one bronze medal (2003), two silver medals (2000, 2012) and one gold medal (2002).
The 6-5, 215-pound center was originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round, 101st overall, of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. Handzus recorded eight points (3G, 5A) in eight games during his previous stint in Chicago in 2006-07.
Chicago previously acquired the fourth-round draft choice on June 23, 2012, along with a seventh-round selection, 191st overall, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (Chicago selected Brandon Whitney), from San Jose in exchange for a fourth-round choice, 109th overall, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (San Jose selected Christophe Lalancette).
