2 teens arrested in Rockford shooting incident


Two 16-year-old boys were arrested while Rockford Police officers investigated a report of shots fired in the area of Blake and West in southwest Rockford.

Just after 6:30 p.m. on March 27, a detective with the department's gang unit pulled over a black SUV. After the SUV stopped, several of its occupants got out and ran away. The driver and one passenger were apprehended shortly after.

During the incident, a gun with a defaced serial number and a green plant material suspected to be cannabis were recovered. The investigation also showed that the passenger was a member of the Latin Kings.

The two teens face the following charges:

  • Driver, 16 years old, Rockford
    • No Valid Drivers License
  • Passenger, 16 years old, Rockford
    • Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (on a public way)
    • Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (by a gang member)
    • No FOID
    • Criminal Defacement of a Firearm
    • Violation of the Cannabis Control Act
    • Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer
