A Rockford organization that helps the homeless find jobs may lose thousands in federal funding.
The Rockford Register Star's Greg Stanley tells WREX Shelter Care Ministries missed out on the first round of HUD grants, meaning they didn't get about $90,000. That amount makes up about two-thirds of the organization's budget. United Way has stepped in to help.
"United Way, instead of paying them on a month-to-month basis, they gave them kind of an annual sum straight up, so they've been able to use that cash now to stay afloat for the next two months while they either try to find other sources or they get the grant," Stanley says.
