I-90 revamp between Rockford and Elgin set to begin
Motorists taking I-90 East to Chicago are starting to see signs regarding a massive construction project that will soon be underway.
The Illinois Tollway will start a rebuilding and widening project this spring that will rebuild the eastbound lanes between Rockford and Elgin. Work is set to be finished by the end of the year. Two lanes will be maintained in both directions during peak hours.
The project is part of a 15-year, $12 billion capital program paid by Tollway revenues. The westbound lanes will be rebuilt and widened next year.
