First Presbyterian gives monetary gift to Jeremiah Development

ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Thanks to a monetary gift from Rockford's First Presbyterian Church, Jeremiah Development will be able to better work toward revitalizing the residential area surrounding downtown Rockford.

The not-for-profit organization received a $75,259.97 gift from the church, which is also one of the organization's founders. The group sponsors a garden at the corner of Park and Court Street that is maintained by volunteers and helps feed neighborhood residents. It has also purchased and renovated a vacant home in the area that is now owner-occupied. The gift will help the group work toward additional area revitalization.

Along with Jeremiah Development, other organizations also recently received gifts from First Presbyterian Church, including:

  • Blackhawk Presbytery - $75,259.97 to pay off debt incurred to build offices at the Stronghold Conference Center
  • Healing Pathways - $37,629.98 to help the organization find its own dedicated space
  • Rock River Pantry - $15,051.99 to provide emergency food assistance, with a portion going to the Peanut Butter Endowment to help buy food for clients when not enough is donated
  • Shelter Care Ministry - $15,051.99 to provide a cushion when state subsidies are slow
  • Rockford Urban Ministry - $7,526 for summer work camps with the Coronado Haskell neighborhood
