Rockford gas prices up after several weeks of decline

ROCKFORD (WREX) -

The average price of gas rose just 2.3 cents last week after several weeks of decline, according to GasBuddy.com's survey of 139 gas outlets in the area.

In contrast, the national average dropped by about the same amount, 2.5 cents. On Sunday, the average price per gallon nationally was $3.64, 9.5 cents lower than one month ago and 21.9 cents lower than one year ago.

Locally, prices were $3.72 on Sunday, 14.8 cents lower than one month ago and 31.2 cents lower than one year ago.

"Average gasoline prices have continued to quietly move lower in the last week across much of the United States at a time of year when we historically are accustomed to seeing prices move higher," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "As of late last week, all fifty states saw lower gasoline prices than the same date last year, and the savings at the pump for motorists- while not staggering- amounts to millions of dollars a day."
