Winnebago County getting state help for road repair

Several roads in Winnebago County will be repaired thanks to a spring construction program bringing $486 million to road and bridge projects around Illinois.

The projects are funded through the Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program and the Illinois Department of Transportation. In addition, IDOT is offering contractors on the projects a reimbursement rate of $10 an hour for hiring graduates of the Highway Construction Careers Training Program.

Included in the projects are several in Winnebago County:

  • $333,000 for county-wide sign replacement
  • $3,600,000 for the resurfacing of US 20 (East State Street) from Fairview to Mid-America Drive in Rockford
  • $200,000 for cold milling, pavement patching, and HMA resurfacing on US 20 interchange ramps at Illinois 251, and US 20 eastbound off ramps to Illinois 251 northbound and Illinois 251 southbound
