Police still looking for info in 2003 murder of Streator boy

Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies are appealing to the public for information on the bludgeoning death of a seven-year-old Streator boy.

Dalton Mesarchik was taken from his front yard on March 26, 2003. His body was found in the Vermillion River the next day by a fisherman. Dalton had been bludgeoned to death with a three-pound sledgehammer that could only be found at Kmart stores.

The death is still under investigation and a $50,000 reward has been announced for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with any information on Dalton's death is encouraged to call their local police department or Illinois State Police Zone 5 at 815-844-1500, ext. 2321 and 217-278-5004.

A memorial will be held for Dalton at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, outside the Streator City Hall.
