High school robotics competition announced for summer

Engineers, robotics teams and even film companies come together to promote manufacturing.

The Rockford Chamber of Commerce held its first ever Manufacturing Expo and Dinner.    Local students and businesses were given the chance to see what the area has to offer for manufacturing.

Jeremy Bout, a Canadian filmmaker, creates films that specifically highlight manufacturing around the country.

"The people here in this room, they build the technology that makes almost everything that we as a whole society get to enjoy, whether that be cars, planes, automobiles."

The Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and community partners announced an off-season robotics event coming this summer, called R2OC. The high school robotics competition will be held at Rock Valley College.

Christina Magee, Rockford Robotics Mentor, says "They'll compete 3 robots against 3 robots in 2.5 minute matches.  This year's game the robots will play Frisbee."
