2 Rockford Police officers receive NAMI awards

Two Rockford Police officers were recently honored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness for their work serving people with mental illness.

Officer Michelle Krebs and Officer Emilio Marquez both received the Star of NAMI award on Tuesday, March 12.

Officer Krebs was nominated by the Rockford Police Training Unit for her work in developing a training program for the police department to better handle a crisis situation involving someone with mental illness.

Officer Marquez was nominated by the mother of a NAMI client for his work in dealing with the woman's child. She says Officer Marquez has responded to a number of instances involving her son and has served as a calming presence.
