Almost everyone has heard to avoid speeding in certain areas if they want to avoid getting a ticket, but the Rockford Register Star's Kevin Haas looked deeper to see which local police departments are actually handing out the most tickets.
Haas studied Illinois Department of Transportation data from different departments over the last three years and found that officers from county departments are more likely to issue citations than their city counterparts.
"The department that is most likely to give you a ticket if you're pulled over is Forreston," Haas said. "They have a village of about 1,500 people, they have a couple highways running through town, and what we found is 97 percent of the time they make a stop, you're going to get a ticket."
Haas also found Winnebago County issued a ticket 78 percent of the time while Rockford Police issued one 70 percent of the time.
