The Rockford Aviators extended the contract of relief pitcher Garrett Granitz and added outfielders Jeremy Boyd and Charlie Stewart Wednesday.
Granitz, with his unorthodox delivery, was one of the most reliable bullpen arms for Rockford last season, as he pitched in 39 games. The right-hander from Sun Prairie, Wis. recorded a 2.93 ERA and finished the season with a 3-2 record and 12 saves.
Boyd is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound outfielder and he comes to Rockford after a 2012 season at Southern Polytechnic State University. He played in all 61 games in 2012, hit .307 and hit a team-lead tying nine home runs. Boyd also showed good plate discipline with the Hornets, as he led the team in walks with 47.
Stewart joins Rockford after a rookie season with the Newark Bears of the independent Canadian American Association. The left-handed outfielder played in nine games for Newark and was able to knock in three runs, collect a pair of doubles and one home run.
