The Ethnic Heritage Museum's Polish gallery honors an influential women as part of Women's History Month.
Stella Kubiak was born in Stefanow, Poland.
Stella came to America with her mother in 1952 after her father died during the war. They ended up in Rockford thanks to the sponsorship of Frank Jefko. Stella graduated from East High School in 1956 and began her career at a bank in the area.
When Stella's mother passed away in 2005, she began volunteering for Heartland Hospice. When she's not doing that, Stella reads and enjoys crocheting.
Her Polish heritage is very important to her and she continues to share her experiences with others.
And although she's being honored, Stella still stays humble.
