A celebration of Women's History Month through Islam faith

The role of women in one of the world's largest religions is being recognized.

The Muslim Association of Greater Rockford hosted the 8th annual Women in Islam celebration today. The event included traditional meals served from a variety of countries throughout the Middle East including Egypt, Syria, and Saudi Arabia.

Each table at the dinner had a different cultural theme with silverware related to its respective country of origin.

A central theme of the event is the importance of people learning about faiths that are different from their own in order to create cultural understanding.
