Man gets total sentence of 26 years in 2011 Rockford burglary

A man has been sentenced to a total of 26 years in prison after being found guilty in a jury trial of burglary and unlawful use of a credit card.

According to police, Ricky Griggs, 47, broke into a car in the parking lot of Anytime Fitness in Rockford and took a man's wallet and credit card. The credit card was then used at a local gas station.

Police spoke to the clerk who performed the transaction at the gas station and surveillance video showed Griggs making the purchase. He was later arrested when he returned to the gas station to buy other items.

Due to prior convictions, Griggs was eligible for extended term sentencing. He was sentenced to twenty years for burglary and six years for unlawful use of a credit card. The sentences will run concurrently.
