Local school libraries get grants from Illinois Secretary of State

The awards for Fiscal Year 2013 School District Library Program Grants have been announced by Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White's office.

Almost $1.4 million will be distributed to 642 schools statewide this year, helping almost 1.7 million students. The funds will go toward the purchase of new materials, library subscriptions to electronic resources, or new technology to help students with research.

Awards were based on a formula of $0.75 per student, with a minimum award of $735.50. The following local school districts received funding:

  • Byron CUSD 226 - $1,131
  • DeKalb CUSD 428 - $4,361.25
  • Dixon CUSD 170 - $1,655.25
  • Freeport School District 145 - $2,994.75
  • Harlem CUSD 122 - $5,331
  • Oregon CUSD 220 - $1,128
  • North Boone CUSD 200 - $1,245.75
  • Rochelle Elementary District 231 - $1,230
  • Rochelle Township High School District 212 - $735.50
  • Rockford Public School District 205 - $19,871
  • Rockton School District 140 - $1,101
  • Hononegah Community High School District - $1,587
  • South Beloit CUSD - $735.50
  • Meridian CUSD - $1,430.25
  • Sycamore CUSD - $2,846.25
  • Winnebago CUSD 323 - $1,137.75
