The Boone-Winnebago Regional Spelling Bee will be endowed in perpetuity thanks to local donors and the Eunice Wishop Stromberg family.
The endowment fund for the bee has surpassed its goal of $100,000 and reached a total of $103,015. The spelling bee was in jeopardy in 2010 when it lost a local donor. However, an anonymous donor funded that bee and members of the IBEW Local 364 helped fund the next year's bee.
At that time, the Eunice Wishop Stromberg family established a permanently endowed fund at the Community Foundation to ensure the life of the regional spelling bee. The family offered a dollar for dollar match for donations up to $50,000, and donations raised at the Community Foundation's Annual Dinner and recent contributions received by the Foundation put the endowment at $103,015.
The yearly spelling bee will be paid for by income from the permanent fund. This year's bee will be held on March 19.
