Rockford area stores see spike in salt sales

Posted:
ROCKFORD (WREX) -

From a relatively quiet December to a fairly snowy February, salt sales in the Rockford area have been anything but normal.

Rockford has seen over 20 inches of snow this month, twice the normal amount, and is just 0.2 inches away from one of the top five snowiest Februaries on record. With early winter not providing as much snow, sales of salt have been a bit unpredictable.

"Normally it kind of trickles through," Chad Forrester with Home Depot said. "This season there's been quite a bit of spike sales."

Even though many stores are changing their floor displays to get ready for spring, salt supplies are still available to help area residents keep their sidewalks and driveways clean.
