Freeport Fire Station 3 will soon have a new place to call home.
The station is moving from South West Avenue to the former Stephenson County Highway Department Building on West South Street. The old building is prone to flooding and the new building will provide room for more vehicles, which Freeport Fire Chief Kevin Countryman says will provide the department with more flexibility.
"We're looking at doing a quick response vehicle similar to what some of the other departments use, so that would be positioned there at the station," he said.
The move is expected to be completed by June 1.
