A public forum will be held in Galena on March 7 to review the Jo Daviess County Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan.
Members of the committee behind the plan will be on hand to present their ideas and take questions. The plan includes almost 200 projects and activities designed to protect residents and property from storm damage and other natural disasters.
"Persons can come and go at their convenience to review the plan and comment. If someone only has a few minutes to review the plan, ask a question, or make a comment, they can easily do so at anytime during the forum. This forum is designed to accommodate busy schedules. Unlike conventional meetings, there are no formal presentations forcing attendees to wait before providing input," according to Tom Lange, Jo Daviess County Hazard Mitigation Committee Chairperson.
The forum will take place at Turner Hall in Galena on March 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Public comment will remain open until March 21 and comments can be directed toward to Jo Daviess County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency.
After the conclusion of the public comment period, any needed revisions will be made prior to the plan's submission to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency for approval.
By adopting the plan, the county will become eligible for project funds distributed by state and federal agencies.
