Thanks to the Home Depot and the National Gardening Association, the garden at the Galapagos Rockford Charter School will grow even larger.
The school was one of 95 winners nationwide, out of a pool of 1,700 applicants. Galapagos was chosen for the $500 grant because of its focus on health, nutrition, and the environment.
The grant will be used to expand the edible garden already in place at the school. The goal is to provide fresh food to all students while supplementing Galapagos' lunch program and participation in Illinois' Fresh Fruits and Vegetables program.
