Look behind the numbers. That's the message students are receiving from the Illinois Department of Transportation Engineering Academy
The program shows Rockford Public Schools students possible future career tracks in transportation and civil engineering.
The program encourages problem solving and teamwork by participants as they create simulated cities of the future.
The academy wants students to learn that behind the maps of bridges and roads are human needs for faster and safer urban transportation.
The program also wants to teach students about how engineering gives the satisfaction of making other peoples' lives better.
