East High School wins Engineer Week competition

High school students from all over the Rockford Region compete to see who can build the strongest bridge.

It's an annual competition, held in conjunction with Engineering Week.  Rock Valley College hosts the event.  Students have one hour to build the best and strongest bridges.  They're judged by professors from Northern Illinois University.  Cliff Mirman is the Chair of NIU's Technology Department, "We want to introduce our kids to engineering and we want to make sure that they see it as an area they can go into after graduation."

East High School students won this year's competition.
