For the second year in a row, Aquin High School's girls basketball team is off to the state tournament at Illinois State University.
Aquin students had barely started their school day before gathering in the gym for a pep rally.
"I'm pretty pumped, I'm ready." Like many students, sophomore Kolton Kramer will follow the girls down to Bloomington to watch the big games. He says he looks forward to cheering for his school. "We do the roller coaster and we also have a superhero fight at halftime," says Kramer.
After the pep rally, the girls team loads into busses, and hits the road. But students will have to contain their excitement for just one more day.
Aquin school Superintendent Kathy Runte decided to cancel school Friday, so students like Kolton can watch the game in person. "We know their work ethic and that's really what's behind all this. And we're just so proud of them and how they have done this. They're just great students and great girls. Lots of character," says Runte.
This is the second year in a row the team has gone to State. The Bulldogs took home the 1st place trophy in 2012. But as a senior, these will be the final games Elayna Erdmier plays for Aquin High School. "Last year was great, going to state and we had a lot of fun memories from that, but this year it's just gonna be more fun memories spent with my team," says Erdmier.
Runte adds, "Whatever they do, to me they can't loose."
