The attorney for the former Dixon comptroller convicted of stealing over $53 million from the city wants state charges against his client dismissed.
Bob Thompson filed a motion to dismiss the 60 charges of theft Rita Crundwell faces in Lee County on Wednesday. Crundwell was sentenced to 235 months in prison last Friday for a federal charge of wire fraud.
The reasoning behind Thompson's request was possible double jeopardy. He says the theft charges Crundwell faces in Lee County include items that were also in the wire fraud charge.
However, the City of Dixon wants to move forward with the charges against Crundwell, with leaders saying they would like to see her in court again.
