NIU fires campus police chief

Donald Grady Donald Grady

The chief of the Northern Illinois University Police Department has been fired by university officials.

Donald Grady was fired Tuesday, in the wake of an investigation into how the department handled the case of a former officer accused of sexually assaulting a student. Grady was put on leave during that investigation and charges against the officer were eventually dropped.

Acting Police Chief Darren Mitchell is leading the department in Grady's place.
