Next year's superintendent for the Winnebago school district is voted in unanimously.
For the first time in more than a decade, Dr. Dennis Harezlak will not report to school when district 323 students hit the books next school year.
Scott Bloomquist, principal at Iroquois Upper West Elementary, in Ridgeland, Illinois will take over for him.
"I certainly will miss being here. I've enjoyed every minute. I can't think of anytime I've actually regretted being here," said Dr. Harezlak.
Dr. Harezlak will finish this school year. He officially retires June 30th. Community members had the chance to offer their input at two different meetings. The board based its selection process on that.
"I'm absolutely confident that we have selected somebody who wants to be in Winnebago, who will be a good fit in a community this size and in a school district this size," said one board member.
Bloomquist is expected to attend some board meetings before he officially takes over as superintendent this summer.
"Everything I've heard through the board is the school district should do very well and we're looking forward to us moving onward and upward after I leave," said Harezlak.
