Motorists around the Rockford area are feeling the pinch at the pump with gas prices reaching almost $4 after a 16.9 cent increase per gallon in the last week.
Gas prices in the Rockford area averaged $3.90 per gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy.com. That price is 44.1 cents higher than one year ago and 60.4 cents higher than just one month ago.
Prices rose nationally as well, with an increase of 11.9 cents per gallon to $3.68. The national price 16.7 cents higher than one year ago and 42.2 cents higher than last month.
"The steady climb of retail gas prices is likely to continue following double-digit increases in wholesale prices with fuel production tightening in the majority of the country's refineries," GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskoski said. "Los Angeles has climbed to $4.28 per gallon with a 55-cent average price increase in the past month, and that rate was surpassed in Chicago ($4.09 average price) and Detroit ($3.86 per gallon average), where motorists saw 63- and 64-cent respective increases over the same period. New York crossed the $4 threshold too."
