Two local students will join 24 others from around the state on the 2012-2013 Illinois All-State Academic Team.
Michelle Dobbs from Rochelle and Bailey Peck from Rockford Lutheran will join the team of 13 boys and 13 girls. The 26-person team was chosen from a group of 450 students.
"This is a tremendous honor and I hope every student who was nominated takes a great deal of pride in all that they have accomplished," IHSA Executive Director Marty Hickman said. "These students are the embodiment of what it mean to take advantage of the entire high school experience."
Nominees had to have a minimum GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale after their seventh semester. They also needed to participate in at least two IHSA sponsored sports or activities during each of the last two years and show "outstanding citizenship."
A committee of IHSA principals, Illinois Activities Directors Association representatives, and Illinois Athletic Directors Association representatives evaluated the nominations and initially chose one male winner and one female winner from each of the seven IHSA Board of Directors Divisions. The final 12 spots on the team were then given to at-large candidates from any state division.
The members will be honored at an April 15 banquet in Bloomington.
Brooke Holloway from Byron and Ben Ross from Keith Country Day School in Rockford were named Honorable Mentions.
