Stadelman and Syverson file legislation for Rockford hotel tax
ROCKFORD (WREX) -
Two state senators from Rockford have filed legislation in Springfield to raise hotel taxes in Winnebago County to help cover the cost of sports facility expansions.
Democratic Senator Steve Stadelman filed the bill on Friday with Republican Senator Dave Syverson as the chief co-sponsor. The money raised from the increased hotel tax would help fund a $43 million plan to expand sports facilities in Rockford and Loves Park.
The raising of county hotel taxes was one of the original financing plans to help fund Rockford's Reclaiming First project.
Disagreements between union leaders and the Rockford Park District stalled previous legislation in the General Assembly.
