Rockford Police announce spring Citizens Police Academy

Rockford residents can get an inside look at the Rockford Police Department through its Spring 2013 Citizens Police Academy.

The goal of the academy is to build relationships between Rockford residents and members of the police department through training and education. In 2010, the Citizens Assisting Police (CAP) volunteer program was founded from the success of the academy. That program has contributed over 8,000 hours of volunteer work to the police department.

Academy classes will cover topics like the organization and structure of the police department, community policing, criminal investigations, laws of arrests, gangs and narcotics, crime scene processing, and more. There will also be a chance to meet district commanders.

The course is eight weeks long and classes take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Rockford Police Department.
