A man suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries after an early morning semi rollover crash in Newark Township.
Officials from the Rock County Sheriff's Office, the Town of Beloit Police Department, Town of Beloit Fire and EMS, and Orfordville Fire and EMS responded to the crash on W STH 81 and S. Olson Road just before 3:45 a.m. Friday.
A 2010 Freightliner tractor-trailer was overturned on its passenger side in a field about 15 yards north of W STH 81. The driver, 33-year-old Brian Lamont of Monroe, was trapped inside. Crews were able to extract Lamont after just over an hour of work. He was taken to Mercy Hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The semi was going east on W STH 81 when Lamont missed a slight curve in the road and crossed to the other lane of traffic. He then drove on the north shoulder of the road until hitting the culvert at S. Olson Road and going airborne. The truck landed on the east side of S. Olson Road, overturned onto its passenger side, and slid for about 100 yards, knocking down several small trees and a power pole, before coming to a rest.
The truck was carrying 42,360 pounds of liquid carbon dioxide. The tank carrying the liquid was damaged, but there no material leaked out.
W STH 81 was closed for about two hours Friday morning. The crash is still under investigation and no citations have been issued at this time.
