Rockford woman carjacked in Chicago

The manhunt for a man who carjacked a Rockford woman overnight has been called off in Schaumburg.

The woman, Crystal Lundberg, told police she was carjacked on Chicago's Near North Side and driven to Schaumburg. The suspect hit her in the face and tried to take her purse. She then jumped into her vehicle and the man followed, getting behind the wheel and driving to Schaumburg.

Lundberg activated the Onstar button in her vehicle around 4:00 a.m. near Plum Grove and Higgins Road. Upon police arrival, she told them the man ran away.

Police searched for the man using K-9 units, but called off the search a few hours later. Schaumburg Police Sergeant John Nebl said Lundberg refused further investigation by police and did not want to sign a complaint or have anyone arrested.

She suffered minor injuries to her face, but was not hospitalized.
