Gas prices in the Rockford area have been on a steady rise, with an 8.1 cent increase in just the last week.
According to GasBuddy.com, the average price of gas in the Rockford area was $3.74 per gallon on Sunday, 45.8 cents higher than they were just one month ago. That price is also 22.9 cents higher than the price one year ago.
Nationally, prices rose 5.7 cents to $3.55, 28.2 cents higher than one month ago, but just 7.2 cents higher than one year ago.
"If anything positive came about as a result of Winter Storm 'Nemo' it may be that the resulting 'demand destruction' seems to have flattened out the rate at which prices had been increasing in the Northeast and the Midwest too," Senior Petroleum Analyst Gregg Laskoski said.
Prices in California rose 14 cents over the last week due to western refineries producing at just 75 percent capacity.
