Crews work overtime to keep RFD open and delay-free

ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Keeping your driveway cleared is a massive job.  Now imagine your driveway is nearly 2 miles long, and 150 feet wide. Oh yeah, and you've got 2 driveways nearly that size.

That's the problem crews face every time it snows at the Chicago/Rockford International Airport. We've gotten snow regularly for more than a week, and that means long hours to keep RFD open.

With a full operation at ups and passenger flights, and with this heavy wet kind of snow, it basically takes everybody we have.  Even though its not inches-wise, it's not the biggest snow storm, but because of the type of snow," says RFD Assistant Operations Manager Dave Lindberg.

On top of the time it takes during the snowfall, Lindberg says it takes an additional 5 to 6 hours to clean up after the snow has stopped.

As of Thursday night there haven't been any delays due to the weather.
