The Rock County Sheriff's Department has identified the man accused of killing a woman in Plymouth Township yesterday morning.

Shortly after 8am police responded to a shooting in the 6700 block of West Stuart Road in Plymouth Township. A caller told 911 operators a woman was shot on the property and that the shooter and victim were neighbors.

Around 8:30am deputies arrived on scene and encountered thick fog and limited visibility. Deputies heard a single gunshot and immediately set up a perimeter and Rock Co.'s Sheriff's SWAT and Hostage Negotiations teams responded. ATV's and snowmobiles were used to access rural areas of the property.

Christine M. Gestrich, 59, was found deceased in a barn. SWAT team members and a SWAT doctor located Daniel F. Bellard, 75, soon after; suffering from a self inflicted gunshot wound. A shotgun was found near his body.

Bellard was treated at the scene and airlifted to UW Hospital in Madison, where he remains in critical condition and under sheriff's deputies guard.

Rock Co. Sheriff's Incident Command Trailer has been deployed and is one of several groups working to process the scene.
