Elementary students make a small sacrifice, helping hospital stays for children more comfortable.
An assembly at Dorothy Winnebago's Simon Elementary celebrated the school-wide project. Instead of the Christmas book exchange, donations were collected during the holiday season. The money and items will go to the Child Life Program through Rockford Memorial Hospital.
Child Life Specialist, Stacy Weavel says this presentation is a chance for the kids to see where their money is going and how they're helping.
"The school likes to start that foundation of giving to others very early for these kids. So they've been doing it for the past 5 or 6 years I think. The kids are always very, very generous."
The kindergarten class alone raised more than $220 for the program. That money will help pay for arts and crafts and new toys.
