Man charged for death of Illinois man kidnapped in Montana

BILLINGS, MT (WREX) -- A man has been charged with the death of an Illinois man kidnapped in Montana after police say he admitted to committing the murder.

Simon Elliot Jacobson was arrested in Colorado last month for the kidnapping and murder of Dejuan Laster. The AP reports Laster's hometown as Rockford, but some sources claim he is from the Schaumburg area. Laster, does, however, have criminal ties to the Rockford area.

Laster was kidnapped from a hotel room in Billings, Montana in January. According to court documents, Jacobson told police he and an accomplice kidnapped Laster and took $8,000 from him. Jacobson then allegedly drove Laster to a rural area and shot him in the arm and the head and then smashed his head with a shovel when Laster did not immediately die.

James Walker has also been arrested in the incident. He faces charges of robbery and kidnapping.

Jacobson faces charges that include deliberate homicide.
