Gas prices jump over 20 cents in Rockford


The average price of gasoline has risen 21.4 cents in the Rockford area since last week.

According to, the average price of gas in Rockford was $3.64 on Sunday, 15.5 cents higher than one year ago and 39.5 cents higher than just a month ago. Nationally, the price rose 14.4 cents per gallon to $3.48, which is 4.4 cents higher than one year ago and 21.1 cents higher than one month ago.

"The national average has ticked higher in the last week, as rising oil prices have put upward pressure on gasoline prices," Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said. "Unfortunately for angry motorists, there doesn't seem to be much relief in sight, at least for the time being, as retail prices continue to climb in virtually all areas of the country."
