22 veterans commit suicide every day, according to VA report

A new report by the Department of Veterans Affairs shows 22 veterans commit suicide every day.

That number is 20 percent higher than previously estimated, but the overall percentage of veteran suicides has declined. Researchers with the VA say the declining trend could be due to the department's efforts to reduce suicide.

The report reflects the number of suicides in 2010. It shows most veterans who commit suicide are over the age of 50.
