The Birds of Prey exhibit is just a few months old, but it's already an award winner.
The Atwood Center exhibit has been given the Outstanding Facility & Park award from the Illinois Park & Recreation Association on January 25. The award honors unique design and development in park or recreation facilities.
"It was an amazing feeling to be recognized among park and recreation professionals from across the state," Atwood Center Manager Becky Lambert said. "We are so proud of the unique design elements that allow us to enhance the educational opportunities at Atwood Center, and really be the new, family-friendly day-long or even overnight destination."
The exhibit was officially opened in September 2012 and features indoor housing for all birds, an accessible tree house, an on-site workroom with access to all enclosures, and accessible path entrance with welcome signage.
