Artists partner with local businesses

The Rockford Register Star downtown displays a fragile piece of artwork, while promoting local talent.

The artwork is part of a new ongoing public art display that the Rockford Area Arts Council hopes will catch on with other businesses.  This particular piece is a two-thirds life size portrait of the artist.  It's her reaction to the BP oil spill and was originally supposed to be covered in black beads, but the artist, Betsy Youngquist, changed her mind.

"I realized that I wanted this to be celebration of color, of nature, of life. It's about renewal. It's about restoration. It's not about this horrible tragedy that happened it's about what happens afterward, it's about rebirth."

Youngquist is heading to Coconut Cove, Florida for an arts festival in two weeks.
