Senate confirms John Kerry as Secretary of State

Massachusetts Senator John Kerry's nomination for Secretary of State has been approved by the United States Senate in a 94 to three vote.

Kerry ran for president in 2004 and is a decorated veteran of Vietnam. He also serves as the leader of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which approved his nomination by voice vote prior to the official vote by the full Senate.

The current Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, is stepping down after four years.
