Troops stationed in Afghanistan and Kuwait will get 21,000 Chicago-style deep dish pizzas to help them celebrate Super Bowl Sunday.
DHL and Pizzas 4 Patriots, a not-for-profit organization, will help troops serving overseas enjoy the big game with a taste of home.
"Since 2008. we have had the pleasure of providing our brave U.S. servicemen and women overseas with the most delicious, authentic 'slices of home,' letting them know we care and we are thinking of them," Retired Master Sergeant Mark Evans, Pizzas 4 Patriots founder, said. "While our soldiers' presence in the Middle East continues to become smaller, they still need to know that we appreciate the sacrifices they make for us, our families and our country."
Illinois-based Great Kitchens will make the pizzas, which will be loaded into DHL cargo jets and shipped overseas to Camp Bastion, Bagram Airbase, and Kandahar in Afghanistan, and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. Various Forward Operating Bases in both countries will also receive them.
This year, 21,000 pizzas, enough to feed every soldier stationed in those countries, will be served. Since 2008, Pizzas 4 Patriots have sent over 122,000 pizzas overseas. For more information on the organization, visit www.pizzas4patriots.com.
