West Middle School held off a late Kennedy Middle School charge to claim the IESA Regional Championship with a 56-54 win Monday night.
West had a 15 point lead midway through the 3rd quarter, but Kennedy's Drequan Friar hit a 3-pointer to cut it to 12 at the end of the quarter.
Kennedy worked the West lead all the way down to two points with three seconds left in the game. Kennedy had a chance to tie at the buzzer, but West's Delayno Mack blocked the potential game-tying shot to preserve the win and the regional championship.
Kennedy had beaten West in their three previous meetings this season.
