Rockford area residents are spending almost a dime more at the pump this week.
Gas prices rose 9.7 cents in the past week, averaging $3.41 per gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy.com. That price was just 2.2 cents higher than one year ago, but 11.7 cents higher than one month ago.
Nationally, the price went up 4.5 cents to $3.31 per gallon. That price is 6.7 cents higher than a year ago, and 4.5 cents higher than one month ago.
"The national average has picked up in the last week on the apparent start of refinery maintenance season," GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said. "Refinery production has taken a hit in the last week as companies begin looking toward the summer driving season, utilizing this time of year for maintenance and any upgrades before gasoline demand races higher for the summer season."
